OASES Community will be located on Salt Spring Island, British Columbia, Canada.
Salt Spring Island has been called the jewel of the Southern Gulf Islands. It has a unique micro-climate, one of the most mild in Canada, and an abundance of Natural beauty and still intact wild places. It is a 90 minute ferry to Vancouver, BC or 20 minutes by float plane. There are 10,000 year round residents and about double in the summer months with cottagers and villagers. It was voted one of the top 52 places int he world to visit in 2016 by New York Times.
Culturally it is an attracter for higher conscious cultural creatives, artisans and farmers, who are seeking a more holistic lifestyle. There is an active Dance Temple community, Yoga culture, and “maker” culture on the island, primarily liberal in political orientation. We have a federal and provincial Green Party representative (the only one in Canada federally and 1 of 2 provincially).
Our intention is to build a thriving multi-generation work/live community on 100+ acres, that will also serve as the OASES Network headquarters and model community. The community will model OASES core values, and demonstrate a new way of living and working together that can be replicated around the world.
Amenities will include:
- A main lodge with central eating hall and kitchen
- Accommodations for guests and visitors
- Accommodation for resident caretakers/workers
- Biodynamic gardens and greenhouses.
- Waldorf school (starting with early ages)
- Shop for woodwork, metal work and artisans
- Dance and theatre hall
- Elder care units.
The community will be established using the model Spirit-Led Threefold Organization, developed by the OASES founder, Michael Gallant.
Day to day decision making will follow a modified sociocratic process, also known as dynamic governance, which balances broad inclusivity with effectiveness, ensuring that the wisdom of the entire social network has a voice.
Ongoing social processes, called Heart Circles, will help the group to cohere ideas and deepen their humanness in conversation. The principles of Martial Rosenberg’s Non-Violent Community will also be widely employed.
We have identified a rare property of 365+ acres bordering on a Provincial Park. The property has 4 separate titles, so it is feasible that a funding party could take one, or that additional parcels could be developed and sold to generate funds for additional build out.
We are seeking philanthropists and co-workers to help turn vision into reality.
Land Cost: $2M USD
Initial Building Cost: $1M USD
Total Funding Sought: $3M USD
